The Biggest Mobile Games of August 2026
August has brought another mix of established mobile giants, high-performing live-service titles and fast-rising games competing for players’ attention.
Looking at AppMagic’s August 2026 data, the top-grossing charts show the continued strength of major franchises, while the trending rankings highlight a very different story: newer titles are finding significant momentum through simple, accessible concepts and strong download growth.
The biggest earners
At the top of the revenue rankings is Honor of Kings, generating $93.9 million worldwide in August. The Tencent title continues to demonstrate the commercial strength of established multiplayer franchises.
PUBG MOBILE takes second place with $64.8 million, while Gossip Harbor: Merge & Story follows closely with $63.4 million. The performance of Gossip Harbor is particularly notable, putting a casual merge title alongside some of mobile gaming’s biggest competitive franchises.
Royal Match ranks fourth, generating $66.5 million, while Whiteout Survival rounds out the top five with $59.2 million.
The rankings highlight how varied the mobile market has become. The biggest revenues aren't coming from a single genre or business model. Competitive games, casual puzzle experiences and strategy titles are all capable of generating substantial revenue when they combine strong retention with effective monetization.
Trending tells a different story
While the revenue charts are dominated by established names, the trending rankings offer a glimpse at where player attention is moving.
Mystery Dumpling Box: Unbox ASMR takes the number one spot, followed by Wheelie Master: Moto Ride 3D. Mayfia City RP: Grand Open World, Moto Wheelie: Traffic Bike 3D and Gangster Miami RP: Grand City also make the top five.
The contrast between the two charts is perhaps the most interesting takeaway from August.
The top-grossing list is built around games with established audiences and proven monetisation engines. The trending list is much more experimental, with ASMR, driving and open-world roleplay experiences all appearing alongside one another.
That suggests there is still plenty of room for new concepts to break through, even in an increasingly competitive mobile market.
What August tells us about mobile gaming
The August rankings reinforce a familiar but important lesson: downloads and revenue are telling two different stories.
A game can be experiencing rapid growth without immediately becoming one of the highest-grossing titles. Conversely, established games can continue generating significant revenue thanks to loyal audiences and mature monetisation systems.
For publishers, this creates two very different opportunities. Established titles can focus on maximising lifetime value, while emerging games need to capture attention quickly and convert that momentum into long-term retention.
August's charts show both sides of that equation. The biggest games continue to prove the value of scale, while the trending rankings demonstrate that there is still an appetite for new formats, accessible gameplay and highly shareable concepts.
The challenge for the next generation of mobile games will be turning that initial spike in downloads into the kind of sustained engagement and monetisation that the industry's biggest titles have already achieved.
